The Rivers

BIGHORN RIVER

Our Fishing Trip Rates are broken down into single, double or triple day packages.

The Big Horn River is undoubtedly one of the finest tail water fisheries the world has to offer. With its prolific seasonal hatches and its enormous fish population it can make any fly-fisherman’s dreams come true. The combination of the water flows controlled by Yellowtail Dam and the biological makeup of the river produces very aggressive and large brown trout, rainbows, and cut-bows, reaching sizes of twenty to twenty nine inches in length. Every fish that is hooked on the Big Horn River is ready and willing to test ones skills.

MISSOURI RIVER

The upper Missouri River may be one of the best-kept secrets in the entire fly-fishing world. With miles and miles of fishable water that winds through rock walls reaching hundreds of feet in height, its deep pools, long shelves, and prolific back channels can make for some of the best streamer and dry fly fishing in the world. Fish on the Missouri River can reach sizes of eighteen to twenty-five inches in length. The rainbows in the Missouri River are said to have the highest verticals of any fresh water fish in the world.

YELLOWSTONE RIVER / BOULDER RIVER / STILLWATER RIVER

Flowing straight out of Yellowstone National Park the longest free flowing stream in the U.S., the Yellowstone River mixes with mineral rich hot springs to create its famous fishery.

The cold water combines with the rich minerals to generate a wide array of hatches; the most famous is the Salmon Fly hatch that occurs in the spring. The Yellowstone has over one hundred miles of fishable water that surges it’s way through Paradise Valley and beyond creating deep pools that hold record brown trout that can be very difficult to catch even for the most experienced fisherman. Both the Boulder River and the Stillwater River are free stone streams that flow out of the gorgeous Absaroka Mountain Range and cut their way through granite rocks to create a gorgeous backdrop while fighting good size cutthroats, rainbows, brook trout, and brown trout. Movies such as The Horse Whisper and A River Runs Through It chose areas on these rivers to film their breathtaking scenes.

BLACKFEET RESERVATION

Engulfed by the beautiful Glacier National Park the waters of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation are home to some of the biggest and strongest fish in the world. Anglers that fish in the spring fed waters of the Blackfeet Reservation can be expected to catch trout that reach lengths of 25 to 30 inches. This is the only place in the world that can offer the stunning Rocky Mountains as a backdrop to catching fish of this magnitude.

What separates Montana Adventures and Angling from the rest of the guide services in Montana is in order to be guided to these magnificent waters on the Blackfeet Reservation, one needs an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe to guide them. Montana Adventures and Angling has just that. Owner and outfitter Jim McFadyean is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe and was born and raised fishing and hunting these areas. He has more than enough experience to lead an angler to the fish of a lifetime.
